Here are 5 situations that can cause a Psychosis Disorder:

1) War
This is the No. 1 stress maker. If you are in a war zone, try to get out of it as fast as you can or to go to a calmer area. A war and its sites can cause psychosis to people who are mentally sensitive, or went through psychosis in their past.

2) Rape
One of the most significant situations that can cause people a psychotic disorder is obtaining sexual relationships without approval of both sides. There many cases of psychosis that are being reported after such relationships.

3) Stress
A large quantity of stress in a given time period, can cause people a psychotic disorder. It is then be wise to try to be calm as much as you can.

4) Divorce or separations
A very stressful situation can be a divorce or a separation from your loved one. It can also trigger a psychotic disorder in some of the cases.

5) Death
A death of a loved one or even “just” a friend or someone you care for, can obviously cause a psychotic disorder if you are in a risk group.

In order to prevent those triggers from causing a psychotic disorder, one should turn to receive a treatment as early and close as possible to the incidents described previously. If someone shows signs of any delusions or paranoia, he should turn to get treatment without any further delay.

A post psychotic depression is characterized by a state of mind like being emotionally extinguished. No feelings, no thoughts, no desires, nothing goes through a post psychotic depressed mind except thoughts about the illness. Here are five tips how to fight back this depressed state of mind:

1) Get a steady occupation
A steady occupation can be a job or even just a class at the local club house. Such an occupation would force to get out of bed and out of your house and to begin your day in an activity.

2) Get out of the house
You have to force yourself and get out of your house. You can go to a local coffee shop in the town center. After you get there, seat near the table, order a warm drink or a cool beverage, look at passers by, and entertain your mind with that activity. If someone starts a conversation with you, try to cooperate and answer his questions in a polite manner.

3) Get out for a walk
Force yourself from time to time and get out of your house, take a walk around the block, look at the children playing; they’re parents chat with each other. I’m sure that with time you would find people to chat with.

4) Visit your parents
Set a visit at your parent’s house. Don’t isolate yourself from your family activity. Force yourself to go and meet your parents. Eat your favorite dishes there, for there is no dish like your mother’s.

5) Get active
Get out of your house and go to a movie. For order to not stay alone at your house, set a date with a friend or even only with yourself, and go to a movie at the local cinema. If you don’t feel like getting out of your house or if the weather is stormy, read a book or watch your favorite show on TV.

I can assure you that in time, when you will get use to perform all of the activities above. Depression would pass away and allow you to continue with your positive life.

1) Watching TV
This is the most common cause for paranoid sufferers to amplify they’re delusions. TV broadcasts are usually can be a significant element to develop the plot that goes in the sufferers mind when having paranoia. Don’t try to turn on the TV in order to entertain your paranoid sufferer.

2) Reading the newspaper
Many times when sufferers goes to a public hospital, just before being hospitalized in a psychiatric one, care givers brings to them the daily newspaper. But that newspaper causes the sufferers to take off with they’re paranoid thoughts, searching in they’re delusional mind for the connection between what they read and see and they’re personal life. Take care not to bring paranoid sufferers any kind of magazine and newspaper.

3) Watching at pictures
Pictures on the wall or photos, can cause to paranoid sufferers to search for the connection even if it is only a delusional one, between what they see and they’re own lives. By taking off pictures from the wall and being strict not to show them photo, those phenomenon can be prevented.

4) Recalling past events and people
When a sufferer with paranoid symptoms conduct a dialog with people, you should try to change the subject, or not to answer if he insist of trying to explain why someone did things to him in the past, or whether others want to harm him. Try not to continue this kind of talk with your sufferer loved one.

5) Confronting with people
When someone goes through a paranoid disorder, his mind usually builds an alternative reality. This reality almost always causes him to think that people want to harm or even kill him. There is no use to prove him wrong; the best thing to do is to avoid him from being with any verbal or other contact with foreign people or even with his relatives.

One of the most common dangers after a psychosis disorder is harming yourself. It can happen because usually after getting out from the psychotic state of mind, people tend to develop a post psychotic depression. A post psychotic depression is when you don’t feel anything; you act like a zombie, living your life without meaning like a machine. I call this state to become “Extinguished”.

In order to avoid people that went into a psychotic depression from harming themselves, they’re relatives should remain close to them and not to live them for themselves with no supervision. In spite of that, they’re relatives should also not over take care and not strangle with too much attention.

From the sufferers point of view, they should understand that they went through a very difficult period and they’re soul acts as if an atom bomb has exploded inside they’re soul, therefore they should give themselves enough time and space to recover from they’re depression.

I’m sure that in time, things would go back to close to how they were before the psychotic episode. If you or your loved one suffers from psychotic depression, you should give yourself the time needed, while making efforts to do positive activities that would help you to recover from this state as soon as possible. Get out of the house, read a book, watch a nice show on TV, take a walk, go to work – do anything that would cause you think on other things except of your suffer.

This is the one million dollar question!

Many people ask me this question after they get frustrated and almost give up trying and convincing they’re loved one to receive the proper medical treatment they need.

From my own experience and personal knowledge, more than 50% of the people who are under a psychotic disorder, refuse any kind of help given to them. This is the main reason why so many times, forcing hospitalization is needed.

In order to convince your loved one to receive the proper treatment that is needed, you should first approach by nice words, a worm hug, in a low voice with out shouting or yelling. Try to calm your loved one, gaining his trust and trying to explain the situation to him in a calm matter.

Don’t force him at first, don’t shout at him, don’t hit him and don’t lie to him. Try to use the help of someone that your loved one trusts him the most. It can be his shrink, his therapist, his brother, his wife or husband or any one that your loved one consider as a friend.

Remember that your loved one is not doing it on purpose, he is in a bad mentally shape and there is a big chance that he is refusing to get treatment because of his Paranoiac delusions, and he thinks that we want to harm him and not willing for his best.

In the past years since I started to act for other consumers, I received many phone calls asking whether it is Ok to hospitalize they’re loved one who suffer from psychosis. These people wanted my approval for doing that. But why is that?

The answer is that they go through a conflict. It is against humane nature to take your loved one and put him behind a kind of bars. The hospitalization act is considered to be the last resort for treating your loved one with psychosis.

If you have enough patient as a family, you are supportive and willing to accept any kind of behavior, may be you can consider giving treatment to your loved one inside your house. You have to take into consideration that it would cost you a lot of money and personal efforts. If you decide to do that, you would have to use a private doctor to come to visit at your house for several times, and that’s alone costs a lot of money.

Nonetheless, you have to take precautions and do things to prevent any extreme action of your loved one. You have to take away from the house any sharp tools such as knifes and screwdrivers in order to prevent him to do an extreme act of despair.

If you are not ready for that kind of devotion, you can consider what more than 90% of the population is doing – Hospitalization. Take into consideration that you are doing it for your loved one. You want his sake and are doing an act of despair after you tried with no success to help him in other ways.

There is a possibility that your loved one would hate you for that, but in time he would understand that you did not have any other choice.

Do you have any other Pros and Cons for a Psychiatric Hospitalization?

Share them with us…

1) One of the more significant ways to identify a person under psychosis is – when that person talks in a disoriented matter. He talks in a confusing matter, jumps from one subject to another without any connection between them. It is often sounds like a bunch of rubbish and a kind of gibberish.

2) The second sign for psychosis is – Paranoia. Paranoia is when a person doesn’t cooperate with his surroundings, including his closest relative even tough they want only his good matter. He thinks that everyone are against him, they want to harm him and want even to kill him by giving him a lethal drug.

3) The third sign for an advance situation of a psychotic disorder is when a person is certain that he can read people thoughts and thinking. He thinks that people are broadcasting thoughts directly to his brain.

4) the fourth way to identify psychosis is when a person thinks that TV or the Radio are broadcasting things that are connected to him or to his life. He thinks that those broadcast are directed to him and sometimes that person would imagine different things that are taken from his own personal life.

5) Another sign to know if a person is under a psychotic disorder is when that person thinks he is the center of the world. Everything goes around him; he feels like he is the king of the world, he is sure that everything happens because of him or only for him.
Do you have more signs to know if a person has psychosis?

One of them is – Catatonia. Catatonia is the kind of schizophrenia when a person doesn’t react to his surroundings. Sometimes he seats or lye in one position and is not able or willing to move.

It is important to remember that if a person is Catatonic, you should continue to talk to him because he is able to hear and understand you. Although he is not moving, he still can hear or see you.

Catatonia can appear during a person’s psychosis disorder. Catatonia doesn’t have to appear in only this one and only kind. It can be among few others of the schizophrenia appearance like paranoia or when a person feels like he is the king of the world.

What you should always remember is that this person is not dead, he still can feel, hear and see you even though it seems like he can’t, therefore you should continue with your efforts to contact with him.

Above all, don’t stop to try and contact with a psychotic person, he needs your empathy and attention, your worm hug and your acceptance of him in order to accept his treatment.

You should always remember that even though the person don’t accept the fact that he is in some kind of trouble and he is certain that nothing wrong with him, don’t try to force on him or even shout or yell at him, it won’t help and this kind of behavior would cause exactly the opposite reaction that is needed now from him.

Psychosis is the mental state where someone might experience hallucinations, unusual beliefs, paranoia, mixed emotions, muddled thoughts, hyper-awareness or show unusual or puzzling behavior. If someone seems distressed or impaired by their experiences, even if they’re quite subtle at first, it is best not to ignore them. The person should be encouraged to discuss the situation.

Approaching someone who might be experiencing psychosis

People in the early stages of psychosis may be reluctant to discuss their experiences because of what others might think. These experiences themselves might be frightening.

The key is to be caring, gentle and non-judgmental. Find a quiet and safe place to talk. Say why you’re worried, but avoid talk of mental illness or diagnoses (you could be wrong and it might just intensify the person’s fear). Don’t force a conversation and don’t touch the person without permission.

Ask the person what will help him feel safe and in control, and allow him to talk about his experiences at his own pace, even if they seem quite unusual. Let him know that help is available, and if he does not want to talk, he is welcome to talk at a later time.

It is important to respect the person’s beliefs, even if you do not share them. Someone who is experiencing psychosis might find it hard to distinguish what is real from what is not, so telling someone that he is wrong rarely helps. However, it is always possible to empathize with whatever emotions are stirred up by the experience and this can be very comforting.

Avoid criticizing or blaming the person. He may be talking or behaving differently because of his psychosis. Although he might be having some odd experiences and difficulty focusing, his intelligence is unlikely to be affected, so you can talk to him as to any other adult. However, sarcasm might be misunderstood, and should be avoided. Be honest, and do not make promises you cannot keep.

If one of your family members and/or household members becomes ill with psychosis, it is important to seek treatment as early as possible.

It is important to encircle him or her with love and support, and to try to not argue with that member about whatever thoughts arise.

* Do not force him to do things like shave or shower if he does not wish to.
* Do not verbally or physically abuse her.
* Don’t disconnect him as much as possible from outside stimuli, which may ignite the false thoughts he is absorbed in.

It is important to disconnect her from stimuli such as a turned-on television, ringing phones, radio, the Internet, newspapers and other things that may ignite hallucinations.

It is desirable to convince the person to seek treatment or invite a psychiatrist to the home to diagnose the condition, or to get hospitalized.

If there is no other choice, one must exercise the option of forced hospitalization for a person who is not interested in any treatment via his own free will.
